More info about Lonnie's role in canon in general

To add:
  • In School of Secrets, Lonnie's intent in placing a hidden camera in the cafeteria was to expose how the students in Auradon Prep are really like when people aren't watching, how the sons and daughters of royalty and heroes aren't what they really seem at first glance. She thought she was above the pettiness and hypocracy the students displayed in her videos until a prank she pulled on a fellow student goes horribly wrong. Eventually, Lonnie realizes she wasn't any better than the students of Auradon Prep (that she is probably worse) and decides to take the camera down.

  • In Rise of the Isle of the Lost, it was Lonnie who convinced Ben to help her settle the dispute between Northern Wei (her home country) and Agrabah. Ben even went there without any secruity, confident that Lonnie and her sword will be able to protect him. The girl had almost lashed out in anger due to the Grand Vizer's stubborness of not giving into the compromise proposed by Ben. Thankfully, Lonnie calmed herself down just in time and apologized to the Grand Vizer, which took him by surprise. Because of this display of humbleness, the Grand Vizer relents, agreeing to the compromise. The novel also hints at Lonnie's desire to join the R.O.A.R. team, but is hesistant to take that first step. One other plot-related Lonnie did was helping Jay train so that he could join R.O.A.R. by her older brother, Li'l Shang's instructions.

Note: I'm not including the Wicked World webseries because it's considered non-canon and Lonnie doesn't have much a role in that anyway.

    Personality:

"Hey, guys! I'm Lonnie. My mom's Mulan? No? Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us, and, well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?"

Lonnie is the youngest daughter of Fa Mulan, the hero of China. This is a fact that she's very proud of. Ever since she was a child, she eagerly trained side by side with her mother, wanting to be just like her when she grows up. Mulan is revered in Auradon as a legendary warrior, a barrier-breaker of sorts who went on to become the first female military officer during her time (who could blame little Lonnie wanting to be like dear ol' mom?) One can say how Lonnie acts and makes decisions is due to how much Mulan is a huge influence on the girl.

She strives to be a kind and honorable person. Lonnie is one of the AKs (Auradon Kids) who showed compassion and decency towards Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos when they first arrived at Auradon Prep. Unlike the other AKs (except Ben and Doug) who were either wary, prejudiced, and/or scared towards the VKs (Villan Kids), Lonnie had an open mind and a curiousity about the four, treating them like they were any other teenager. Heck, she even went out of her way to ask Mal to spell her hair after seeing what a good job Maleficent's daughter did making over Jane, daughter of the Fairy Godmother (who is also the headmistress of the school), making Evie and Mal feel welcomed. She marches to the beat of her own drum, never one to follow trends and popular opinion, choosing to see for herself what are these VKs really like.

"I just, you know, I thought... Even villains love their kids.

    Oh... How awful."

Lonnie then got to know the Core 4 during a significant event in the first movie, the one where the Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are making love potion-laced cookies for Ben. Lonnie cried when she found out that their parents don't even love them. She had only known them for a few weeks and they were basically strangers at this point, but she empathized with them, shedding a tear due to feelings of genuine sadness (which was, incidentally, the final ingredient needed for the cookies).

Coming from a military family and being trained to be able to fight (and defend herself) at a young age, Lonnie grows up to be tough as nails. Other people see her as a fearless and fierce individual. After all, she was brave enough to leave the safety of Auradon to help Carlos, Jay, and Evie rescue Ben from Uma's pirate crew in the Isle of the Lost. In one of Mal' Spellbooks, Jay mentions all Lonnie knew about the Isle is what she would see in the news. She had no idea how dangerous the Isle could be yet she went and decided to go anyway out of loyalty and friendship to Ben. How she convinced Jay and Carlos to let her go to the Isle in the first place displays a stubborn streak she has and a cunning hidden underneath all that Auradon niceness. She basically blackmails the boys, saying if she can't come along with them, she'll tell Fairy Godmother about what happened to Ben. Lonnie doesn't mess around. If there something she wants, she will find a way to get it.

As sweet and nice as she is, Lonnie is not without her flaws. She has a tendency of being judgemental and self-righteous, thinking she is above everyone else. During her time spying on everyone with a video camera she stuck on the ceiling of the cafeteria, Lonnie made snarky and judgy commentary about her fellow students in the footage, airing their dirty laundry in the process (and her own, ironically enough). It took her a while to realize that she felt "morally superior", that she was better than everyone else. Thankfully, her conscience kicked in and she gained the self-awareness to turn off the camera and never spy on anyone again.

Push the right buttons and Lonnie's fiery temper comes forth. It was only glimpsed upon in the second movie, yet one of the supplementary novels reveal that telling Lonnie what she can and can't do really sets her off. The reason for this even though the United States of Auradon is full of "Good Guys", some aspects of their society are not at all that progressive. The fact girls couldn't join R.O.A.R. because of an arcaic rule leaves Lonnie frustrated and disgruntled. She was raised to be independent and strong, to think for herself, but the system forces her to bite her tongue and smile out of politeness. She is however, learning now to know how to calmly pick her battles and when to humble herself (something that Mulan taught her a long time ago).

In the beginning, Lonnie was a naive, sheltered girl who only had one window of life to look out of. Compared to the kids who grew up in the Isle, she had a happier childhood, a family who supports and loves her and friends she could count on. Finding out how awful the Core 4's lives compared to hers was like cold, hard reality slapping her in the face. Lonnie makes strides to be a better friend, growing closer to the VKs, eventually becoming one of Evie's best customers for 4Hearts, her clothing business. She became the closest to Jay, the son of Jafar, whom she helped train in order for him to be accepted in R.O.A.R. (a sport in Auradon which basically combines fencing and Parkour), supporting him throughout the process.

Once Lonnie is your friend, she sticks by you no matter what.

    Abilities:

Martial arts + Swordplay + Weapons training
Lonnie has been training with her parents ever since was a little girl. She knows how to handle a sword and can fight without using a weapon.

    Parkour
Seeing that R.O.A.R. is her favorite sport, Lonnie is adapt using her environment to her advantage. She can balance on the ledgdes of a building, jump over a wall, and just anything pertaining to Parkour in general.

    Hip-hop dancing + DJing
Lonnie is a talented dancer and has a knack for DJing. She has performed for the school before and has DJ'd a couple of school dances.

Alignment: Thras. In canon, Lonnie has been called "brave" time and again by the other characters. You would have to be pretty brave to go into an island that essentially houses the most evil of villains. However, she's not as unflappable as her peers think. She is still, at her core, a regular teenage girl (without any magic, mind you!) who still has her own fears, doubts, and insecurities

    Other:

She has the uncanny "ability" of not getting caught for all the stunts she pulls in canon. She puts a camera in the cafeteria and spies on everyone? Not caught! Breaks out from a mandatory lockdown during midterms to join the Auradon version of American Ninja Warrior in order to prove she's worthy inheriting the sword of Shan Yu? Not caught!

    HOW??

    ⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

General Sample: If you wanna fight me, then fight me

Emotion Sample: Do androids dream of electric sheep?

Even though Lonnie had effectively disappeared from Verens for a month, she somehow was still able to retain knowledge from the dunami classes she had been taking from the Welcome Center. The one she wanted to do the most was offensive dunamis. It was something she wanted to try to do for the longest time, but she could never really find time to do it. And if she was being completely honest with herself, the emotion she needed to harness in order to fully tapped into that dunami frightened her a bit.

Anger. Or as their instructor liked to sugarcoat it, a "righteous fury".

Lonnie had seen what her anger could do. It wasn't pretty. Although having a lightning storm appear when you're super pissed at someone was handy, it could have grave consequences if not controlled properly.
So that was her agenda for the day: try to figure out how to channel her "righteous fury" so that she could weaponize it to her advantage. No pressure or anything.

After a brainstorming session with Evie last night, Lonnie decided to take her training out to the lake, using targets she had picked up in a weapon store in town. The girl set them up in a circle surrounding her so that she could practice to aim in different angles. After that was done, she moved into position, standing in the middle of the circle while doing some stretches to limber up for this exercise.

"All right," she said, cricking her neck a bit before looking on to the target in front of her. "Good to go."

She hadn't quite decided yet how her anger will manifest. The lightning and thunder she had done months ago was a total accident. Lonnie had to be in control so that the hit would be focused and direct to the target. She looked to her hand, remembering that her barrier dunami would flow down to her finger tips. Perhaps she should start there. With that in mind, Lonnie took a deep breath before closing her eyes, focusing the energy she needed to project into her hand.

Summoning the anger she needed was easy enough; all she had to do was picture Chad Charming's smug face, waving the ROAR rule book in front of her. She frowned, brow furrowed as she concentrated on the image. Lonnie felt something hot bubbling inside her the more she remembered that day; the way Chad belittled her abilities, the way Chad scoffed at her mother's achievements. What made Lonnie finally tipped over the edge was a surprise: the face of Jay popping into her mind, the Jay who did not even try to do anything to help her.

She let out a cry, the burning sensation flowed through her body and into her hand. Lonnie aimed her hand at the target in front of her and a ball of fire shot through her palm, incinerating the wood in the process. The smell of something burning had broken Lonnie's concentration, making her yelp in surprise. She quickly grabbed the water bottle that was by her feet, ran to the target and poured water on to it to put the fire out.

"Woah," She said while attempting to calm down her breathing, capping the water bottle before tilting her head to the side to examine the damage she had done. "That worked out better than expected..."

Her first outing with the fire dunami was a little rough around the edges but man, was it powerful. What she needed to master next, Lonnie decided, was finesse. She knew she couldn't rely on raw power alone if she wanted to use this to fight in this world. So she ran back to her initial position, placed the water bottle down on the ground before trying again.
